Brussels Capital Heritage Days on 17-18 September

This year the Heritage Days in Brussels are on the 17th and 18th of September.

Herman Richir (1866-1942): a painter for the National Bank of Belgium

Last month, the Bank’s art collection acquired a new canvas signed in the name of Herman Richir (1866-1942).

Night at the Museum

On the 26th of February, Museum Night Fever will be braving the wintry weathers once again to offer you a wild night! 19 Brussels museums and over 500 young people have let their creativity run free to concoct a seismic programme for you: pop/rock/folk concerts, games, fashion shows, installations, dance, performances… and a spectacular afterparty at BOZAR.

Annual closing

From Friday 24th December till Saturday 1st January the Museum is closed. This offers a perfect occasion to look back at the last few months. And to be honest, once again in 2010 you showed up in great numbers.

Governor’s portrait on display

The museum owns a painted portrait of each one of the twenty governors who have headed the National Bank over the years.

New 2-euro commemorative coin on display in the Museum

The theme? The Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Belgian gold in foreign hands

During the second half of the 1930s a growing threat of war was clearly felt. Hitler had come to power in 1933 and on the international level tension was building up. Belgium felt compelled to transfer most of its stocks of gold and other valuables abroad for safe keeping .

The newest Belgian 2-euro commemorative coin is dedicated to Louis Braille (1809 – 1852) and the 200th anniversary of his birthday.
