Live Jazz at the NBBmuseum!  Share

Each year on 30 April, Brussels celebrates International Jazz Day. At the invitation of Les lundis d’Hortense, an association of musicians working to promote and spread knowledge of Belgian jazz, five Brussels museums are taking part in this event. They will host concerts of some of the most prominent Belgian jazz musicians. At 12 o’clock sharp the Museum of the National Bank of Belgium gives the floor to Jean-Louis Rassinfosse on double bass and Jeanfrançois Prins on guitar. An excellent opportunity to discover the museum and enjoy a superb musical performance at the same time!

In November 2011, UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role in uniting people around the world. Each year on 30 April, Brussels also celebrates this tribute to jazz music and its fundamental role in uniting people across the globe, promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity.

The famous Brussels Manneken-Pis will be dressed up for the occasion as Manneken Toots, referring to Toots Thielemans, the greatest Belgian harmonica player. Born in the Marolles, Brussels native Toots Thielemans has played alongside some of the world’s greatest jazz artists.

Five Brussels museums open their doors to jazz by playing original duos in the exceptional setting of their halls. The first concert is at 10:30 in Experience Brussels and the last one in the Belgian Museum of Freemasonry at 16:30. At noon, during lunch break, you are very welcome in the Museum of the National Bank of Belgium to enjoy the music by Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Jeanfrançois Prins.

Bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse is is a prominent figure in the Belgian jazz scene. He has toured the world with some of the greatest jazz musicians such as Michel Petrucciani, Chet Baker, Steve Houben and Toots Thielemans among others. His home-grown sound and singing upright bass resonates on more than a hundred albums. Unstoppable, he never ceases to surprise the listener!

Guitarist, composer, arranger and producer Jeanfrançois Prins, has spent most of his career between New York City and Berlin, until recently moving back to his roots: Brussels. He collaborated with many international jazz giants. A melodic story-teller, he enjoys risk-taking improvisation and organic interaction.

The interplay of both jazz personalities on International Jazz Day in the magnificent 19th century setting of the NBBmuseumhall looks very promissing. Not to be missed!
