The newest Belgian € 2 commemorative coin is dedicated to the centenary of the start of the First World War. As of today, the coin is on display in the National Bank of Belgium’s temporary Museum.
It bears the official logo of the commemoration of ‘100 years Great War’ as its effigy. This consists of the dates 2014-18, with a stylised poppy on top, the symbol ‘par excellence’ of the soldiers who fell in action at the river Yser. Below it says in English: The Great War Centenary. As on all other Belgian € 2 commemorative coins, the issuing country is mentioned in its three languages: BELGIE-BELGIQUE-BELGIEN. And the twelve stars of the European flag also feature on the coin’s rim.
The coin is available to the public through the normal channels, including the counters of the National Bank of Belgium in Brussels or at one of its branches.
