Introduction

The National Bank of Belgium has had a museum since 1982. In 2002, it was completely refurbished, resulting in a doubling of the exhibition space. The theme of “money” is the central feature. Throughout the 15 rooms, the presentation is varied and aims to be both interactive and educational. But that is not the most visible part of what the National Bank has to offer in the educational field.

These web pages will enable you to find out all the information you need about the museum and its collections, to book a visit and to download various educational documents.

In the Bank’s museum, you can get to know all about the history of means of payment, the role and importance of money in the economy, the tasks and activities of the National Bank within the new European framework, the features of euro banknotes, and, finally, money as a cultural phenomenon.

The museum is mainly targeted at secondary school pupils and provides an illustration of both historical and geographical themes, while also explaining topical subjects and basic economics.
